Some swoony Spectral Scoop snippets
Hope they bring a smile to your face on this cozy October day! 😊🍁
I just started an Instagram account, and I’m completely clueless about what to post. Visual media is not my strong suit — I write! But it seems like screenshots of super cute excerpts are popular on Bookstagram, so I’ve been reading through The Spectral Scoop to find some good sections to screenshot and post. The beauty of Substack is I can write and write and write, so here are all of my favorite snippets:
“I’ve been working for weeks to get answers,” she responded. “And now you just meet me and want to ask the questions?”
Luke laughed, rich and genuine, and just for a moment, he looked lighter, full of the vibrancy Kayla imagined he normally had.
“Hey, you seemed pretty intent on talking to me, too.”
Kayla gave him the same look she gave Mark when she wasn’t in the mood for jokes.
“Look, how about dinner?” he recovered.
He was earnest. Kayla could sense an air of desperation, too, though she wasn’t sure if it stemmed from his desire for answers or just to go to sleep.
Kayla’s heart felt like it was on an elevator, one minute leaping into her chest and the next plummeting to her stomach. Her plan had been successful, in a way, but now she had to tread very carefully.
“Journalists usually don’t go out to dinner with their sources.”
“Low stakes,” he replied. “You can ask me a couple questions, and then return the favor by answering a couple of mine.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Is that why you insisted on dinner?”
“Among several reasons,” Luke replied with a sly smile.
Kayla shook her head at how events had transpired. One minute, she was spying a cute guy that held the potential for answers. Now, she was going to a very empty home with him to do and see who knows what.
“It’ll all be off the record,” he clarified, with sarcasm in his voice.
“Right,” she said, returning it. “Off the record”
“You make me talk too much,” he said.
“Good.”
She could sense the air change between them. This time, it wasn’t ghosts. The undercurrent that had been coursing just below the surface ever since dinner had finally surfaced. Conversation had come so easily, and when Kayla looked into Luke’s eyes, she saw something that she’d learned didn’t come often: Trust.
“Guess we don’t know too much about each other,” she replied.
“I know you’re a great writer and you’ve got a killer smile,” he said, nuzzling kisses against her neck.
“I know you’re an amazing woodworker, and surprising, and very sexy,” she purred in reply as she rubbed her hand against him.
Just a little spicy! 😉🌶 You gotta go to the book for the whole pepper, so to speak.
Next up: A scene from Luke’s POV!
Side note: After half a year, my hold at the library came in, and I got my first taste of ACOTAR. To say I DEVOURED it … guess I’ve joined the club!
